About the Route: Burkina Faso
"You have given our children such a big thing"
Katrin Rhode, AMPO children's orphanage, Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is the third poorest country in the world. Here the 300 children who participated included AIDS orphans, street children and a deaf children’s unit in a mainstream school, the only one in the country.

Creativity and art in Burkina Faso's classrooms
"Art in the classroom?" "Impossible! How would it benefit my pupils?" said one teacher. "Too expensive!" said another.
With the IDCS's support, CEFISE has been working with parents and teachers of deaf children studying in mainstream schools in Burkina Faso to promote artistic and creative activities in the classroom. These are a great way to make everyone participate, value each child's individual qualities, encourage team work and foster a positive learning environment for hearing and deaf children alike. With a little imagination, art materials are readily available at a very low cost or for free, from recycled materials for example.
Letter from Katrin Rhode, AMPO
Dear Barry,
My name is Katrin Rohde and I am the founder of orphanages in Ouadougou, we have 320 children living with us.
Right now Ross is with us and teaches my teachers and educators how to teach painting and design different items with the children.
Ross is the third time with us, and I am writing to you because I want to thank for this wonderful, modest and patient person Ross with his great knowledge, always willing to give it away freely.
Let me tell you that all the actions of samedifference are very good for my children, it helps a lot to find new ways to express themselves, forget many things and also just to have fun!
All the best to you and the team and your project, may God bless you.
Katrin Rohde, AMPO, Ouagadougou
